Mouse pointer travels off screen onto the edge of other monitors, pausing game and activating other functions

Mouse pointer travels slightly off the current screen, even when full screen is selected. Clicking the mouse activates items on the taskbar on the secondary screen, acting as if the ESC key was pressed, triggering an item on the taskbar, or opening the Start menu. This happens repeatedly and I have been unable to stop the error.
