Right trigger acts as auto-mine and place toggle on Xbox Series S (Minecraft Preview)

My little brother is playing Minecraft Preview on Xbox Series S with a controller. When he taps the right trigger once, the game starts mining continuously on its own, as if the trigger is still being held down. When he taps the right trigger again, the mining stops. If he taps it again, it starts auto-mining again.

So the right trigger is acting like an on/off toggle instead of working only while it is held.

We thought this was a hardware problem at first, so we:

  1. Bought a new controller.

  2. Tested it. The exact same behavior happened.

  3. Went back and exchanged it for another new controller.

  4. Tested again and the same bug happened.

Since it happens across multiple brand-new controllers, it appears to be a bug in Minecraft Preview input handling, not a physical trigger issue.

Environment:

  • Platform: Xbox Series S

  • Edition: Minecraft Preview

  • Version: Whatever the latest Preview update is as of today (we just updated before seeing the bug)

  • Controller remapping: None, using default controller layout

  • Scope: So far we have only seen this in two specific worlds

  • Regular Minecraft (Bedrock): Does not show this behavior, only Preview

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Minecraft Preview on Xbox Series S.

  2. Join one of the affected worlds.

  3. Look at any block that can be mined.

  4. Tap the right trigger once.
    • Mining starts and continues even after releasing the trigger.

  5. Tap the right trigger again.
    • Mining stops.

  6. Tap the right trigger again.
    • Mining starts again without holding the trigger down.

Expected result:
Mining should only happen while the right trigger is held down. When the player releases the trigger, mining should stop immediately.

Actual result:
The right trigger behaves like a toggle. One tap starts auto-mining, another tap stops it, and this repeats. This happens on multiple new controllers, with no remapping, and only in Minecraft Preview.

Appreciation note:
We are not angry about this. We are just trying to help by reporting what we see. If someone on the team can look at the input or controller handling code for Preview, there may be a small logic or state issue causing this trigger toggle behavior.

We really appreciate all of you and your hard, dedicated work. My little brother loves Minecraft, and we both love Minecraft Preview. Thank you for everything you do and for taking the time to read this.
