Copper golem can't open chest with glass block above it.

I have an automatic sorter that uses copper golems. It seems to me that if I place a glass block on top of the chest, to block the copper golem from escaping, he just isn’t able to use it. In the first minutes of placing the glass block, he is able to, but after Some time not anymore. He is able to reach it however.
