All saved worlds disappeared after most recent update , using bedrock

After loading up minecraft my son told me all his worlds were gone. After looking into things as much as i could, found no minecraftworlds folder and no windows.old folder to recover the worlds. after tying again to load up the game, it prompted me to make a new gamer tag…it selected one and new worlds can be created but no history of old worlds found. Is there any hope of getting those worlds back?

I have heard many gripes about bedrocks updates messing with things, but if players spend their hard earned money as well as time building worlds up to have it deleted by the game company’s mistake. This does not seem like a good business model,
