Game no longer registers every individual scroll wheel step

Summary:
After the GDK update, Minecraft no longer registers every scroll wheel step. When scrolling in either direction, a single, individual scroll step can fail to register, requiring the user to scroll an additional step before the game detects the input.

This is not a hardware issue:

  • Two mice were tested (one wired, one wireless via 2.4G), and both exhibit the problem.

  • When the issue occurs, switching to another application shows the scroll wheel functioning normally. Returning to Minecraft causes the issue to reappear.

  • The issue did not occur in the UWP version.

Although it may take some time to reproduce intentionally, it occurs frequently during normal gameplay and is noticeably disruptive.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Minecraft.

  2. Open a world.

  3. Scroll the mouse wheel one step in a single direction.

  4. If the game registers the input, scroll one step again in the same direction.

  5. Repeat step 4 slowly until the game fails to register a scroll step.

  6. If the game does not fail to register a scroll step after several minutes, begin scrolling one step in the opposite direction.

    • Important: Because you were scrolling in the previous direction for an extended period, you will need to scroll for longer in the opposite direction. For example, if you scrolled 300 steps initially, you will need to scroll 300 steps to offset that movement, plus an additional 300 steps.

  7. When a step is not registered, scroll one step in the opposite direction and observe that this step is also not registered.

  8. Switch to another application and scroll up and then down by one step; the inputs should be correctly registered.

  9. Switch back to Minecraft and scroll up and then down by one step; the game will again fail to register the inputs.

Observed Results:
The GDK version of Minecraft inconsistently registers scroll wheel steps. Missing scroll inputs prevent the correct hotbar slot from being selected.

Expected Results:
Every scroll wheel step should be reliably registered, matching the behavior of the UWP version.

Notes:

I’ve attached a video demonstrating the recommended scrolling speed for reproducing the issue. Scrolling too quickly can make the issue difficult to observe.

Thank you for your report!

However, this issue has been temporarily closed as Awaiting Response.

Could you please provide a video in which the mouse wheel input is shown through an on-screen overlay?

This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

Here is a video demonstrating the issue using an on-screen overlay. As shown, once the second hotbar slot is reached, the game no longer detects scroll wheel input.

As a side note, when requesting that users install specific software, I would strongly recommend naming the software explicitly and providing a direct download link, rather than expecting users to locate and download it themselves.
