Summary:
As of the 26.0.28 Preview, the “Enter sleep mode when no inputs detected” option in Settings > General has been renamed back to “Lower framerate when controller is disconnected”, and its description has been removed.
However, this renaming should not have been done. The option currently behaves similarly to the Java Edition implementation discussed in MCPE-229351, which was implemented in Bedrock Edition (with different AFK timings). Because of this change, the option was no longer misnamed or misleading. Despite that, the original, inaccurate name was restored.
At present, in both Preview and Stable releases, the option behaves as follows:
With the Pause menu open, the game lowers the framerate to 10 after 1 minute of no input.
With the Pause menu closed, the game lowers the framerate to 10 after 15 minutes of no input.
Steps to Reproduce:
Launch Minecraft Preview.
Navigate to Settings > General.
Enable “Lower framerate when controller is disconnected”.
Open a world.
Either:
Open the Pause menu and remain idle for 1 minute, or
Leave the Pause menu closed and remain idle for 15 minutes.
Observe the framerate after the specified idle time.
Observed Results:
After the specified period of inactivity, the framerate drops to 10 FPS.
Expected Results:
The option should be renamed back to “Enter sleep mode when no inputs detected”, as its current behavior matches that name. The option’s description could also be restored.
Alternatively, if “Lower framerate when controller is disconnected” does function as its name suggests, it may be more desirable to add a separate option named “Enter sleep mode when no inputs detected” to the General settings.
