Boats on a server very slow, laggy, unusable

When using boats on a local world, they are jerky and don’t move smoothly but the speed seems to be normal. But on a server (Shockbyte, with a three green bar ping “Low”) boats are practically unusable, they move roughly one small jerk per second, and they are also slow to turn. I’m running windows 10 but the same issue was reported by other players on my server playing on Mobile and Windows 11. They reported the same issue with minecarts.
