I'm reporting this issue because before 26.0 it worked as described in "Expected result". The current result makes inviting and reconnecting with friends much more difficult and in some cases even impossible.
How to reproduce this issue:
Send someone a friend request.
Create a world with multiplayer on and try to invite this player.
Expected result: The player you sent a friend request to should appear on the list of people you can invite.
Actual result: Only players who have accepted your friend request and players that you follow are shown.

It makes it harder to reconnect with friends because friend invites are not shown in the game menus. Another reason is that sometimes your old friend might not remember your username but when they see your world they instantly are like “Hey I remember this place, is that really you?!”. World invites simply add more context, whereas friend requests are currently really random and invisible. To solve these problems you could make it work like before or make friend requests show up in game and include more context, like the ability to attach a note or something like that.

Did this issue occur on Realms and a multiplayer server?
Did both players use PC or a laptop to access the Realm?
Did the other person accept the invite to Realms? It is different from friends request.
Did the issue still occurs after waiting 1 to 5 minutes?

Hello, sorry for the late reply, but I was a bit concerned about making a video for privacy reasons. However, I found a way to do it without showing my friends' usernames. The problem is that I can’t invite her to my Realm anymore, although it was possible before version 26.0.
I hope everything is clear now. I would appreciate your help in reconnecting with my old friend. 🙂
Update: It turns out that I can’t invite just this specific person. I tried adding some random people, and after sending them friend requests, I was able to invite them to my Realm instantly (they showed up on the member page).
This is really weird. Maybe it's because my friend plays on a Nintendo Switch?
Update 2: Okay! I discovered exactly when this bug occurs — a player only appears in the invite menu if you haven't sent them a friend request but have followed them. This is how I managed to invite my friend to my Realm. I canceled the friend request and unfollowed her, then simply followed her again, which made her profile appear in the invite menu.
It is not clear why this would be a problem.
Can you provide more details on why this makes it “much more difficult and in some cases even impossible”?
Does the friend request not get received? If the request does not get received, they probably would not get the invitation to join the world either.
Are they unable to accept the friend request, and if so, what happens when they try?
