Tamed baby wolves panic when taking damage from another entity, including their owner. Adult wolves do not do this. Also, while panicking in this way, they can move around even while sitting.

Observe, and then try again
This time, interact to make the wolf sit just after it hits the ground

Wolf should take damage but not otherwise react
