Mobs Killed by Indirect Damage Sources Traced to Wither Do Not Drop Wither Roses

Description:
In Bedrock Edition, the Wither Rose drop mechanic only triggers when mobs are killed by direct damage from the Wither (e.g., its explosion upon spawning, direct impact of wither skulls). However, when mobs are killed by indirect damage sources that trace back to the Wither—such as fireballs deflected by the Wither, TNT ignited by its explosion, or other player-independent indirect damage where the Wither is the source—no Wither Rose is dropped. This is inconsistent with behaviors such as charged creepers dropping mob heads regardless of whether the kill is direct or indirect, and contradicts the intended design where the Wither should be credited for kills caused by its actions.

How to Reproduce:

  1. Summon a Wither in an open area.

  2. Create indirect kill scenarios:

    • Allow the Wither to deflect a fireball that kills a mob (e.g., chicken, cow).

    • Let the Wither's explosion ignite TNT that subsequently kills a mob.

  3. Alternatively, use the /damage command

  4. Observe whether a Wither Rose is dropped upon the mob's death.

Observed Result:

  • Mobs killed by the Wither's direct attacks (e.g., wither skull impact, explosion at spawn) drop Wither Roses normally.

  • Mobs killed by indirect damage sources traced to the Wither (e.g., deflected projectiles, TNT ignited by Wither) do not drop Wither Roses.

  • The /damage command specifying the Wither as the source does trigger a Wither Rose drop, confirming the source can be correctly traced, but in-game indirect mechanics fail to do so.

Expected Result:

  • Any mob killed by damage sourced to the Wither—whether direct or indirect—should have a chance to drop a Wither Rose, consistent with other mechanics like charged creeper head drops.

  • The damage source tracing should work reliably across all indirect scenarios where the Wither initiates the chain of events.

  • This would align with player expectations and the logical interpretation of "killed by Wither."

Additional Notes:
This limitation unnecessarily restricts farm designs that rely on indirect Wither damage. Since the /damage command test confirms that the game can recognize the Wither as a source for drops, the failure in natural scenarios suggests a bug in how indirect damage chains propagate the killer entity tag. This should be fixed to ensure consistency and enable more creative technical gameplay.
