Multiples times the tridents of my tridents killer (I use it on my xp farm) pass through the ground.
I don't know if it appen randomly when the chunk reload, randomly when I quit and join back the world or if it's both but it's never in game when the area is loaded and I always turn off the tridents killer.
My tridents killer is like this if it can help you:
