Closed captions option not available in menu

In the Accessibility settings, I cannot find the option to enable closed captions or the settings that go along with it. I am unsure if this is an issue related to my system specifically or not because nobody else seems to be experiencing this issue.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Navigate to the Accessibility tab.

  3. Scroll down and there is no option to enable Closed Captions anywhere in the menu.

Expected result:

A toggle to enable Closed Captions along with settings for closed captions in the Gameplay section.

Actual Result:

No toggle for closed captions or any of the related settings.

“The new Gameplay subtitles (closed captions) will remain in the Beta and Preview versions only for a while longer, while we work on polishing and bug fixing”

It still remain on beta since 26.0. However, developers accidentally added closed captions only through options.txt in 26.10. It should WAI as for now

now the bug is also in the main game as well (for me)

When I got a new laptop (reason unrelated) the issue appears to be fixed. It might be a device problem (like bugged installer or device doesn’t support).

Closed Captions continue to be missing in Minecraft Bedrock PC and Bedrock Preview PC as of August 16th 2026. I have several devices that do have Closed captions, but this is my main PC. To be fair my PC is over a decade old but more than meets the minimum specs. Every other major advanced feature like Vibrant Visuals and new additions like Sulfur Caves is there and works fine. The new slider for Screen Distortion is there for adjusting the nausea effect. The fact that its something supposedly simple like Closed Captions is infuriating.

I’ve done clean installs of Minecraft, even dug through old install locations and hidden temp folders, deleting old files that could be messing with a fresh install somehow with no change in outcome. My only thought is that my account or device ID is linked to a conservative rollout or fallback branch that holds back certain features for stability, but why closed captions would be a stability issue I have no idea.

Editing the options.txt file at C:\Users\andre_000\AppData\Roaming\Minecraft Bedrock\Users\749373204565486220\games\com.mojang\minecraftpe allows some closed captions to work but is limited to directional mob “Footsteps”, “Bunny Hops” and a few others. The fact that this works at all tells me it shouldn’t be a stability issue.
