Description:
The sound event mob.fish.death is defined in sound_definitions.json but is not actually invoked for any fish mob (Cod, Salmon, Pufferfish, Tropical Fish) in sounds.json. When these fish die, the game falls back to the default game.player.death sound event for death. This causes two issues:
The death sound volume is controlled by the “Players” audio slider rather than the “Friendly mobs” slider.
The closed caption / subtitle displayed is “Player dies” rather than a fish-specific message (e.g., “Cod dies”).
Steps to Reproduce:
Launch Minecraft with closed captions enabled.
Spawn any of the following fish: Cod, Salmon, Pufferfish, or Tropical Fish.
Kill the fish (e.g., by attacking it with a sword or using
/kill @e[type=cod]).Observe the subtitle that appears and the audio slider that affects the sound volume (test by lowering the “Players” slider vs. “Friendly mobs” slider while playing the sound).
Actual Results:
The subtitle shown is “Player dies” (or the localized equivalent).
The sound volume is affected by the “Players” slider, not the “Friendly mobs” slider.
Expected Results:
The subtitle should display a fish-specific message (e.g., “Cod dies”).
The sound should be controlled by the “Friendly mobs” audio slider.
