Skin pack skin names are replaced with numerical indexes, causing missing profile thumbnails

Skin pack skin names are replaced with numerical indexes, causing missing profile thumbnails

Minecraft Version: 1.26.50.24 and later
Platform: Minecraft Bedrock Edition

Description

Starting with Minecraft Bedrock version 1.26.50.24, there appears to be a regression in how skins from skin packs are identified and loaded.

Skin thumbnails no longer appear in the profile

Skin names from skin packs are being replaced with numerical indexes corresponding to their position in the pack. As a result, the player's head preview (skin thumbnail) no longer appears correctly in the profile.

For example, the original identifier of the Minecraft Earth skin is:

70777aa6-5949-4529-947f-2fcdbc94c3cb.Earth

However, after equipping the skin, its identifier changes to:

70777aa6-5949-4529-947f-2fcdbc94c3cb.0

The original skin name (Earth) is replaced with its numerical position (0). This behavior seems to affect skin packs in general, rather than being exclusive to Minecraft Earth skins.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition version 1.26.50.24 or later.

  2. Open the Dressing Room.

  3. Select a skin pack.

  4. Equip any skin from the pack.

  5. Return to the profile and observe the player's head preview.

  6. Notice that the skin thumbnail is missing, or not updated.

Expected Result

  • The player's head preview should display correctly in the profile.

Actual Result

  • Skin identifiers are changed from their original names to numerical indexes (e.g. .Earth becomes .0).

  • The player's head preview no longer appears in the profile.

Additional Information

This issue started appearing in version 1.26.50.24. Earlier versions did not exhibit these problems.

This is related to a change in how Minecraft handles skin pack identifiers pointed in 1.26.50.24 changelog https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-preview-26-50-24 .

You have marked my issue as a duplicate of a similar one, however, while related, it is not the same. My issue pertains to a version subsequent to the one mentioned in the report I am supposedly duplicating.
In any case, I don’t consider it inappropriate for them to join.

In fact, I’ve provided a more detailed explanation of the issue, as I managed to identify the cause and resolve it by making a simulated request to the appearance endpoint.
