Since 26.70.20, the game now uses compressed files with no file extension to store imported Add-Ons. However, some Add-Ons may not work properly with this format. While the Add-ons themselves can still be detected in the game and loaded into worlds, some textures or other things may fail to load.
(It may be related to the “.brarchive” files since in my testing only Add-Ons with these files have this problem, but I’m no Add-On expert so it’s up to you guys)
Steps to reproduce
Download this Add-On from here or through the attachments.
Open the .mcaddon file as a compressed file, and manually import the Add-On into Minecraft, so the files will look like this:
com.mojang\behavior_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Behaviour\files
com.mojang\resource_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Assets Pack\files
com.mojang\resource_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Resources\files
Or import it using the released version of Minecraft, since it automatically decompresses imported Add-Ons.
Enter a world with these Add-Ons enabled.
Hold a shield, then run “/f“.
Notice that the offhand icon appears on the left of the hotbar.
Now compress the folders into separate .zip files, then delete the original folders, so the files will look like this:
com.mojang\behavior_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Behaviour.zip
com.mojang\resource_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Assets Pack.zip
com.mojang\resource_packs\OffHand-On-Bedrock Resources.zip
Or import it using Minecraft Preview, since it now uses compressed files to store imported Add-Ons.
Enter a world with these Add-Ons enabled.
Hold a shield, then run “/f“.
Notice that it can’t load the textures.
Expected result
Add-Ons stored as compressed files should work just like decompressed Add-Ons.
Actual result
Add-Ons stored as compressed files may failed to load some assets.
