This appears to be an issue with custom crafting recipes which are loaded into the client when joining specific servers (e. g. Lifeboat) and remain after leaving the server for some reason.
A simple fix/workaround for this is to restart the game.
I created a world in survival and can't craft anything in it. I have wood (logs and planks I found in a bonus chest) and can't even build a workbench. The 2x2 crafting menu won't even let me turn my logs into planks anymore. Also, the recipe book won't show any recipes unless I specifically search for them with "All" enabled. There are no entries for "craftable".

Update 2017-08-23 10:35 CET: After turning Minecraft off and on again, the issue seems to have vanished. (I also switched to English (UK) in the meantime but switching back to German did not result in the same issue again). The issue (as of now) only occurred when I created a new world in survival (/w start map and bonus chest, Easy) when I first launched MC after the update to Beta Build 7.

I just want to add that the same thing happened to me in Xbox One. I logged out twice before it worked. Aug. 26, 2017
