I built some houses in the End, lured in two zombie villagers and cured them. However, the villages seemed to ignore the houses. They just wandered randomly until they left the village far behind.
I eventually transported them back and locked them in a house, but they apparently still don't recognize it as a village, because they're not breeding, even though there are enough doors and I fed them.

I don't think villagers would breed in the End because they need sunlight to breed and recognize a village, correct? There is no sunlight in The End.
If that was the case, wouldn't villages fall apart at night? I thought an unobstructed line of sight to the sky was enough for a space to be considered "outside" for the purposes of detecting a house.

Unobstructed view of the sky (following the same rules as beacons) is supposed to be the requirement for detecting a house for a village in any dimension. But villagers never end up reproducing or staying inside what they should be detecting as a house at night. It seems that villager mechanics are disabled for dimensions other than the overworld.
@Harrison Moore, indeed. The current bugged behavior is that Villager Homes are not being recognized in any dimension other than the overworld.
