As this is reportedly still happening in 1.7.x it would be greatly appreciated if any new information about the issue could be posted here, so we can try and reproduce and fix any bugs.
Having same issue here, friends were able to join my multiplayer game (Xbox One to Xbox One, non-realm) for weeks until one day - they now all receive the 'Unable to connect to world' error but I'm still able to join theirs.
My NAT type is open and I have no network issues nor do they, and all our privacy settings with Xbox are unchanged and normal.
All of us are on v.1.8.1 and consoles are up to date, world settings are also invite only and multiplayer is on. Have tried multiple resets, reinstalls etc. across all of us. Thanks.
As of 4/22/19 i am still experiencing this issue. I would love to get this figured out, as i have to resort to paying for a realm for us to play together
Still getting this, it started happening since 1.8 and my friend still can't join my Windows 10 world. And I can't find information to resolve it. It's been too long without a solution.

On the new Minecraft for my xbox one the game randomly lets my friends join, but later when we try a different world, or that same world it doesn't work. Servers always work.
