Insane lag after update to V1.2.3

Once 1.2.3 was installed, insane lag has been an issue. At first i thought the issue was only when not on peaceful. But after more gameplay it is fairly consistent.

I was also getting this problem last night. The game slows to the point where it is unplayable.
Note: Both times it happened when I approached my pen full of various animals. We were also playing 3-way split screen. The first time it resolved itself after about 1m. The second time I had to quit the game (which is quite annoying when combined with the bug where other players lose their inventory MCPE-26498)

I experience lag as well, however, mine also predates the latest update. Some of this may be hardware related (Nexus 7 2013) but there are some cases when this shouldn't happen. Case in point is when I'm fighting mobs. It could be a single zombie attacking me and despite me facing him and tapping the screen there's no attack damage done. Sometimes the sword doesn't swing, other times it will swing right in front of the mob but do no damage. If the mob moves around me I can get severe lag just trying to turn around. This will sometimes destroy block around me.

Here's what I've noticed:
This happens in Survival and in Creative when I had a lot of villagers spawn, in single player and multiplayer. I will play with my nieces and nephews and host the world on my device (since I can't host my own server), so I can see some lag from me being the server in multiplayer, however, when I go back into one of these worlds on my own I still experience tons of lag; completely unplayable.

The issue seems to have to do more with mobs. In my single and multiplayer survival games I have farms with cows, (dyed) sheep, pigs and chickens [perhaps on a plot of land too small] with some crops some distance away. I could be in the middle of these animals or within earshot, or nowhere near them and still experience lag. I may be running along in a cave or something and hit a small pocket (possibly within a single chunk) where game play is fast and responsive.

That is what I recall from my experience. I hope it helps and is something that can be resolved.

Best.

Yes, the same happens to me! Every night, om the dot, there is insane lag, making the game almost unplayable! For some reason, it happens only at night for me. The rest of the day the game runs perfect! (In-game night)

Playing a bit more the lag seems to happen in certain chunks. I was clearing out a hillside and ran into a very heavy lag; nearly no animation. There was nothing special about this hillside, it is a ~handful of chunks away from my animal farm. I have great game play in a chunk adjacent to the "bad" chunk. There is a similar issue where my garden is. Since I am not near my animals or any other mobs by the really bad hillside chunk I do not think that mobs can be the only issue.

I have switched Fancy Graphics off, initially to locate the chunk boundaries, without much luck. Instead I used the Render Chunk Distance between a low number and the highest which has helped a bit.

In the previous version I did turn change all the Visual settings: low chunk render, fancy graphics off, no clouds or sun, etc. This did not help lag.

I tried switching the game to Peaceful as mentioned in MCPE-28499 and it seems to have removed the lag issue.
