Ender Room not allowing Return Teleport

I built the End Room around the End City portal out of all the right stuff in the right places, all the emerald and gold blocks, enchanting table below, and set up an identical surface one with the End Crystal on the enchanting table,
But throwing Ender eyes at it isn't detonating the crystal or creating the portal cube.

But seriously - let me walk into my end chest in a pocket dimension - by building an identical sealed room around a portal in the end where throwing and ender eye at a certain side of it takes us to the unused sides (where it already kicks you out at Dragon's Nest).

How else do you one-up Shulker Boxes?

Were you told of this 'End Room' by a friend? Because they're trolling you - there is no such thing requiring emerald or gold blocks or an enchanting table.
After that you post becomes very confusing.

Have a look at the end gateway mechanics on the wiki:
https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/End_gateway_portal#Generation
"A new end gateway portal generates near the edge of the main island each time the ender dragon is defeated. On the main island, a maximum of twenty portals can be generated for each world, arranged in a circular fashion around the island at Y-level 75, approximately 70 to 100 blocks away from the center (0,0). Killing the ender dragon after twenty portals are generated will not generate further portals."
https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/End_gateway_portal#Behavior
"Throwing an ender pearl or flying with an elytra directly into the end gateway block will teleport the player to the outer End islands. Any entity that moves into the end gateway block also is teleported. The bedrock arrangement prevents the player from entering the portal directly."

End Portals are 1*1 cubes, meaning they have 6 sides. If you build an enclosed room around it out of gold, emeralds and obsidian, you can build rooms just like that on the surface.

Then you build an end crystal and use Flint & Steel on it, and when it explodes in your face the crystal turns into an end portal linked to the end portal you built the room around.

You're supposed to be able to tie up to 5 rooms together in this way, because one side of the 1*1 will always kick you to where the dragon spawns.

With the bedrock you can only really make 3, because it covers the top and bottom. I was trying to make the 4th room, but I couldn't hit the top side of the portal because of the bedrock and was coming out in the 3rd room.
