Originally they spawned in occasionally as they usually would, when we actually were ready to harvest them for skulls they stopped spawning in. I tried to make a "farm" in the fortress to encourage them to spawn but they don't spawn and neither do any other mobs in the fortress. If it helps this is a realm I host with me and a couple other friends.

I second the observations listed in the original description. After toggling difficulty from hard -> peaceful -> hard, a few skeletons may spawn in the fortress but that is it, as they completely disappear shortly after. As for any other time, the only place I ever see wither skeletons after the update are inside lava lakes below the fortress.

I want to add my realm was made on normal and has not been made peaceful. Just a severe lack of wither skeletons (and Ghast) in the nether.

I have a single-player world synced from Xbox One, not Realms, and I have the same problem. When I tried to farm wither skulls I only found three skeletons, and one was under the fortress instead of in it. Nothing is spawning in the nether, aside from blazes from the spawners. The fortress is so empty it would echo if echoes were a thing in MC
