Maps only showing one green indicator at a time

I wanted to mark out a few areas of interest around my base, and I wanted to lay out a 3x3 map (at 3:4 ratio) in my base to show them off. Long story short, I placed a map at my base and then hiked to the area of interest (flower biome in this case) and placed a cloned map there as well, expecting to see 2 green indicators on my map to represent my base and the flower biome. However, once I placed the map in the flower biome, the green indicator representing my base disappeared. When I traveled back to my base and re-placed the map there, then the indicator representing the map located in the flower biome disappeared.

It is my understanding that maps should be able to hold any number of indicators representing cloned maps placed within the map area. If I am understanding the map rules correctly, then there is a bug in play. That said, I may have other factors influencing this bug, so I've laid out the exact steps I took below to recreate:

1) Created and used a locator map at my base, and increased its' zoom level to 3/4 (Map 1)

2) My base happened to land in the corner of the map, so I traveled just to the "north" (direction arbitrary) and repeated step 1 for the north-adjacent 3/4 map area (Map 2)

3) I then walked around and completely populated Maps 1 and 2

4) After this, I ended up cloning Map 1 (Walkin Map) and then increased Walkin Map to 4/4 zoom, with the intention of using it as the map I carry around.

5) I then placed clones of the 3/4 maps in my base, and Map 1 (on wall in my base) was accurately showing the green locator representing itself as well as the white locator representing the clone of Map 1 I was carrying around with me.

6) A clone of Walkin Map was also placed in my base a few blocks from Maps 1 and 2

7) I then traveled back to the flower biome I discovered while exploring Map 2 (populating Walkin Map along the way) and placed 2 cloned copies of Map 2 and Walkin Map in the flower biome (Walkin Map on N and S side of a block and Map 2 on E and W side of same block). The idea here being that I'd have an indicator for Walkin Map as well as an indicator for Map 2 so that I could see where the boime was at my base (Map 2 on the wall) as well as when I was out and about (Walkin Map)

*At this point, I noticed that the green indicator representing my base disappeared from Walkin Map...

8) I then walked back to my base and took Walkin Map off the wall and then put it right back again, and then the green indicator representing Walkin Map in the flower biome disappeared.

Then I gave up, and then it was now, and then I don't know what happened....
