when you try to use a nametag on pets

Did you check in the video settings if "in game player names" was on?

Please add more details to describe the issue. Are you renaming the name tag using an anvil beforehand?

Ive used name tags on my dog and horse and their names are not showing up. I'm in the beta and it's not working.

This is not resolved why is it marked as resolved? You cannot see names on your pets or villagers.

Could you please show a picture of the issue? I'm not seeing any problems with nametags
