I have noticed that while redstone torches can still power blocks in 1.15.2, redstone blocks cannot. This has made it impossible to make certain redstone creations because torches can be washed away or destroyed by pistons

Could you provide a photo of the setup you're using?
Also, are you playing in the Bedrock edition? The current versions for Bedrock are 1.6.x and 1.5.x.
