Previously, as early as a few months ago, you could expand a map following the instructions from the Minecraft wiki, the tutorial videos, and numerous other sites. You create a blank map, with or without a compass, and you go outside past your last map, and hold the map in your right hand and "equip" it. The map gets information at zoom level 0.
Then you take this map back to a crafting table, and add paper all around it, and then you get zoom level 1 with a tiny splotch of the previous data zoomed out in the middle. This is why they are "zoom" levels.
Well today the map comes back blank. You can try walking back to the new area and re-equipping it and you still get blank. You can try adding blank maps around it instead of paper, blank. You can try everything and all you get is blank, blank, blank. The maps don't zoom. None of them. This affects the game a lot as mapping is sort of a sport in Minecraft, so please fix this. It broke sometime between April and today.
If you need a screenshot, I can send you a picture of one of my blank test maps, but seriously, just go try it. Blank.
