I just removed the water source for the field so it would vanish. as this didnt worked after like 10 minutes of waiting i decided i break the farm and place new dirt. by removing it i saw my whole 9x9 field has grass underneath except for the water source in the middle.

Grass grows under crops. It doesn't look right and should be addressed. Yes maybe it counts as a transparent block but that doesn't seem right.

technically they can simply because farmland is a transparent block, so light can pass through it. therefore, path blocks and glass works the same. other than that, all waterloggable blocks will let light pass through, meaning that it is completely normal for dirt to turn into grass if under them.
