End Gateway Suffocation

I have 1 end gateway (since I've only defeated the dragon once) and usually use ender pearls to travel through this to the outer islands. As this action worked just fine in the previous beta versions 1.7 and 1.8 (at least for me), I instead have got stucked in the bedrock block and suffocate since 1.9.0.0 Beta and now it is still existing. I've attached a clip below which in it I've managed to escape from the portal but most of the time I wouldn't and just suffocated to death (even with spam jumps and throwing more ender pearls)

I have looked up on the bug list and found similar situations but most of them was reported as fixed and was in the previous versions, but none of it was in the 1.9.0.0 Beta version and later.
