LAN multiplayer doesn't work with worlds created by official release 1.8+ but worlds created by the latest build and played with the same build can. The button to enable multiplayer game also closes ingame regardless when you edit it from the world settings. I'm sorry but I have to report this bug for 1.8 instead of the beta version of 1.9, is it all because it doesn't have options above.

Your Minecraft version is outdated. We currently take issues for version 1.8.1 and the latest snapshot.
Please update to the latest version as it includes the newest fixes. If you still have this problem after updating, then please create a new issue.
