Login starts me 100+ blocks above my sign in and respawn points. Drops me to the ground losing all my inventory and experience.

When I login it starts me a 100+ blocks above sea level. the only way I don't lose everything as if I carry a chess with me put everything in the chest in a location that I can get back to. Its also starting me off underwater rather than where I last set my respawn point.
