Player spawned at wrong altitude and falls from a height when reloading the world

Update on this issue:

21/Jan/19 by @unknown
As mentioned this issue has been fixed in the 1.9 beta version, but we will leave this ticket open as a point of reference until the fix is fully released.

Workaround: Players have found that placing a pool of water at the world spawn point will often prevent the player from falling to their death when the world is reloaded.

This issue has already been fixed in the beta. We expect it to be fixed in release 1.9 when it becomes available. The release date for 1.9 has not been determined yet. Please limit additional comments to recurrences in the 1.9 Beta releases.

15/Dec/18 Workaround for Windows 10 by @unknown:
After saving and quitting, make sure to export a backup copy of your world before you load it again. (Doing it immediately after saving is the best practice.)
If you spawn in the wrong place and die, delete the world, then import your backup copy and try again. It worked for me!by

Samsung Galaxy S7 Active.

Saved game loaded. Player was near sea level but restored at above cloud level. Gravity worked.

Edit: confirmed the player was restored directly above the original spawn point, i.e., fell onto the location where player was spawned when the world was created.

Edit: confirmed still occurs after placing a bed. Fall still takes place over original spawn point, not over the bed.

We have seen this issue in our realm.  One player saved an quit inside his base and when he returned he spawned on top of it.

This doesn't seem to occur every time - if there are any specific steps to reproduce the issue please let us know.

Also - if this is happening in a specific save, could you please provide a copy of the save here? (Either directly if its less than 10MB, or via file share such as google drive)

Since my report is listed as a duplicate, note that my issue did not occur at original spawn point, or on top of base, or above bed.  I did not appear in mid-air or above anything, just immediate "You died" at start-up.

When this happened to me, I had saved the game and then changed texture packs. When I loaded the world again, I spawned in mid-air. When I respawned after being killed, I spawned in the correct place, but lost everything on me when I died.

Whenever this has happened to me it only has teleported me to the original spawn point, meaning I was able to place a platform whenever I started falling.

In my second test yes I respawn a few blocks over 'safe'.

However as I said in my previous comment I have a case where I respawned under bedrock.

I suppose that the game checks for a safe place from y=255 to y=0 and if it doesn't find a 'safe' place, you will end up at y=0.

The fact that the game doesn't consider a glass block a safe place is probably the real bug here.

Leaves instead of glass triger the same bug, however upper slabs are ok.

Will you reopen this ?

Should I open a new one with the demonstration on how to build a platform that will make you log in under bedrock ?

@unknown At this point I think the issue you are describing would be best tracked in its own ticket - if you could please create a new one with steps to reproduce, it would be appreciated.

Do inventory items get deleted too? Even if you know where they "fell"?

Had this same issue today, except it was my friend in my world.
