Same issue on XBox
Use an item enchanted with silk touch
I have now found three desert temples, and two jungle temples. Two of the three desert temples had chests, and one of the jungle temples. So it looks like this issue also applies to jungle temples as well.

Have the same problem playing on Xbox one. Problem also exists when several mobs are in an area, I.e. monsters at night, or even several animals.
I have the same problem playing on XBOX One. Whenever there ae several mobs nearby, whether monsters at night, near a village or even with half dozen or so farm animals nearby. Again, I had no issues with lag until the latest update.
Happens to me on XBOX ONE as well. Game did not crash when I saved and exited, but when I next opened the world, I had lost a couple of hours of gameplay.

Just discovered a workaround. Remove items from furnace while the fishing pole is in your hand. The XP gained from cooking/smelting goes to mend the fishing pole.
I have the same issue with MCPE 1.2.0.20 beta, playing on XBOX One. I have used three different fishing poles with mending applied, and durability is eroded just as though the enchantment does not exist. i "caught" all of the poles by fishing, did not apply any enchantments myself. I am gaining levels with the XP instead of it being applied to mending the fishing pole.
Since my report is listed as a duplicate, note that my issue did not occur at original spawn point, or on top of base, or above bed. I did not appear in mid-air or above anything, just immediate "You died" at start-up.
