I left the game running for about 6 hours while I AFK'd at an auto sugarcane farm. Upon returning, I spent 2 hours exploring. I noticed some chunks were not loading, so I quit and save. Upon reloading the world, I was back at the AFK location with a chest with no sugarcane. 8 hours of gameplay was lost. Please fix the autosave. Would also be nice to have a save button to manually save as well as a way to turn off autosave.

I have had this happen a few more times. The chest displays in the upper right as if it saving and it does not. When I push the XBOX button on the controller the XBOX itself is unresponsive. The only way to resolve the issues is to restart.

(Xbox One Beta player)
This is happening to our server every day now and it is heartbreaking to say the least. The kicker is that today, our server was reverted to its state 2 days ago, while we can say for certain that the server did save when we played yesterday as my friend opened the server on two separate occasions yesterday.
We have found a crude workaround to find out whether the servers saves or not: if the Nether did not save since your last visit, the game won't save your progress anymore. It is by no means a fix but at least you can find out whether the bug is affecting you. We thought however the bug was predictable but now that it reverted the world to roughly three sessions ago, we (our group) have to abandon the Better Together beta to avoid spending hours for nothing.
It appears the saving has to do with internet connectivity. If that is the case, I find it baffling that the server is not saved locally on the host's Xbox One as well.

This continues to happen. I paused the game on the latest occurrence and it said on the right side that I was disconnected from Xbox live. I was not. I exited and saved and returned to the main menu. No servers were showing on the server tab. It said coming soon. I rejoined the game and it showed me as being connected and I was able to invite friends. I moved to a separate spot within the game and saved and exited. It did not show me in my new spot when I started my game, but the thumbnail for the save showed me in my new spot. I exited the game and returned to the main screen. I pressed Y to switch users, the game froze, crashed and the Xbox powered off.

Another bug has been created for this issue - MCPE-26049

Happened to me about 3 days ago (1.2.0.29). I was signed into Xbox Live before starting and after exiting the game, and there was no indication that I had ever lost connectivity while playing.
Xbox One games are supposed to auto-sync with the cloud and, if some internet connection issue arises that prevents the cloud save from being completed, the next time you start the game it should notice the discrepancy and give you a choice of which save to start from. At least, that is how MC Xbox One Edition does it and the very few times I've ever been out of sync I've always been able to pick the local HD save and not lost any work. Not so with Bedrock.

This is happening to me as well however it only seems to happen if the XBox One is serving the world. It just so happens that the world was converted but I'm not sure that that matters. When the XBox One is serving, sometimes our progress (several hours) will get lost even though we see the saving icon throughout our play session.
This is not the case when running serving a world from the Windows 10 Beta version. To test a different scenario, I started a new world on the Windows 10 Edition (beta). In this world I do not have issues with progress being lost however we are experiencing issues with the XBox One player profiles getting out of sync.
For example, I start the server on Windows 10 then my wife will join on the XBox One under her XBox Live account. Sometimes when she logs out and back in she will be in a different spot in the world with either no inventory or inventory from a last session. Yet still, sometimes she'll login and it starts right back up where she left off. I'm wondering why the same XBox Live user is getting what seems to be two different Minecraft accounts (or states)? I read somewhere that a Minecraft profile and game state is stored as a file with a UUID/GUID. This UUID is supposed to follow the XBox Live account meaning I should never get assigned a new one for the same world. Why is this happening? It's not like the user data is being corrupted because sometimes when she logs in it will revert to the one we had thought we lost.

I am still having this issue with 1.2

This issue continues. I had the same problem last night. I was engaged in villager trading with my mending villager. I saved and quit to make sure that it saved. It did not. The items I was trading with the villager in my breeder were still in my inventory and I did not have the mending books. I power cycled the Xbox one and returned to the game. My villagers in my breeder disappeared even through they were there until I saved and closed. I have opened a separate issue on the disappearing villagers (MCPE-26338), but wanted to share here in case it helps with this issue.

Same problem. Played game, left game using save and quit option. Lost probably 75% of our progress and treated me, second player, as if I had never existed in the world at all. Now, in addition, everytime we load any game, seconds after an additional player enters the world (as opposed to just one) the first thing it does it notify us it's been disconnected from Xbox live, which the Xbox home screen and my LAN connection both say is a lie.

It does that to me on iPad

Still happening to me on the XBOX ONE

Happens to me on XBOX ONE as well. Game did not crash when I saved and exited, but when I next opened the world, I had lost a couple of hours of gameplay.

XBOX ONE: This is happening to me too, even after the most Recent Update

Forced Auto save has to be the WORST thing in Minecraft History... well done

Even happens in realms

After a week of playing on our new realm, we encountered the bug again (XBOX ONE). 5 hours of progress had been lost (meaning all the progress from the first person that joined the realm that day). Just like last time in the beta, the bug started showing up when the server got to a certain size. Since it was a realm and not a peer to peer server and since the beta was officially over, we assumed the bug had been fixed.
I want to stress that a game-breaking bug like this does not even deserve to live on for a month without a fix or even a mention of it by the devs. It makes the game fundamentally unplayable, literally not knowing whether your progress is actually saved or not. Nothing feels more pointless than wasting 5 hours of your life in Minecraft.

Same problem for me on Xbox One...
Travelled to a Woodland Mansion, took me 6 hours to get there, loot the mansion, and get back. The next day I start Minecraft and I spawn in the middle of the ocean not even halfway on my journey to the Mansion and my boat was gone.
Please fix this issue ASAP because, as said earlier, with a broken autosave the game is unplayable.

I also have this issue on XBOX ONE, I find that copying a world reverts your save game to a previous state as well as "Save and quit" I seem to be able so far to get around this by not saving at all and not even exiting minecraft but by closing it with another xbox game

I too am having this issue.
im not even playing on a server or even basic multiplayer. I have been playing single player offline (still waiting for world conversion to be fixed) and I have had this happen a few times, and each time I have lost many hours of work.

I just encountered this problem. I spent around 3 hours preparing to fight a wither, fought and beat the wither, got the achievements for it, hit save and quit. I loaded back in after about 20 mins and everything I did was gone. No nether star, no enchants, no potions, nothing.
I'm in my own survival world that's not public.

This Game is basically unplayable until this save issue is fixed. Played multiple times with each time game not saving most of what I had done. Spent a few hours playing and only about 30 min. Of what I had done saved.
This issue should be fixed in 1.2.5.

question;
how has this issue been resolved? there hasn't been an update on xbox one since before this got 'resolved'.

what version is Xbox currently on? above says 1.2.5 and I've seen someone mention 1.2.6, but mine is still on 1.2.3...
1.2.5 and 1.2.6 are beta versions of the game. More information can be found here: https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/beta-test-better-together

This issue is NOT fixed. Tried to migrate my games to a new Xbox and realized that the Cloud sync has not been working for at least a month. Saves are working locally but not syncing to the cloud. Never even had a notice this was happening until I tried to migrate.
Fix this. It is unacceptable to lose months of game play because of a bug that was introduced recently in an update. At this point I cannot migrate large saves because they won't sync to the Cloud.
Allow us a way to export/import the saves to a USB drive like we could on the Xbox 360. This would solve the problem (at least until you fix the cloud sync).

Issue was encountered today, if this cloud sync is an issue perhaps allow users to opt out and only save locally.
Resubmitted as [MCPE-30162]

THIS IS STILL BROKEN IN FEBRUARY 2018. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-30862
NOT RESOLVED

Still broken. Played for hours yesterday. This morning my save has sporadic parts of my progress saved, and others that are just not there. I'm done. What a waste of my time....
I have had this same issue.
