I apologize if this is a dup, but I could not find an exact match. Villagers are despawning from my farms and villager breeders. In the case of the breeder, it happens to the villagers that are above and below the ground. This does not appear to impact villagers that are in boats or minecarts. I can provide screenshots and additional information as needed.

This is also affecting villagers in my iron farm

Happening on my Realms server (Bedrock). Was able to prevent despawn with boats, but experienced issue again when I took them all out. Happened in village nearest my base. Also occurred with another villager at my base 80+ blocks away from village perimeter.

Confirmed as also happening on Bedrock, Win 10, 1.2.5, SSP world created new with 1.2.3 update. Villagers have disappeared from breeder potato field with a false village above it. Also the door sensing villager above has disappeared a few times as well and had to be replaced. All three villagers had been traded with before installing in breeder.
UPDATE as of Dec 4, 2017: Both villagers in the breeder farm have disappeared again. One was a farmer brown coat, the other a librarian. Both were name tagged, both had been traded with fully (all trades opened up) and full enclosed in glass and well lit, under peaceful difficulty. The door sensing villager is still present at this time, and the nether portal has not been used in 2 days.

It happens to me with villagers and minecarts as well, typically constantly moving ones that are collecting or transporting items.

I can confirm that my villages are despawning in both my iron farm that is at y 225 and my villager breeder. I have logged in the server and found 5 of 14 missing from the iron farm and probably 7-9 missing from my villager breeder. Oddly enough it does not happen to my iron farms that are at y 100 or below. Have not tested y values explicitly, but figure I would mention that. This is on version 1.2.7 currently in Windows 10 version.

I am seeing the same thing with villager disappearing from my Iron farm. Realms, playing on Windows 10 1.2.8 version.
I have two pods and it appears only one of the pods has villagers disappearing and it appears that the pod is on a chunk border with the line bisecting the villager pod (Pod is 3x2) and the border runs through the middle of the pod on the long side.
I check on the pod every couple of days and it is random as to how many villager s disappear. The Pod on the other side of the farm does not appear to have anyone disappear but that pod is in the middle of a chunk.

Same for me on my bedrock edition realm. Villagers in iron farms are despawning. I also have had a hopper minecart in my melon and pumpkin farm disappear on many occasions as well as stopping randomly (the stopping I have assumed to just be server lag).

This is a really annoying bug only brown coat villagers on farmland are constantly disappearing all my farmers (and they are farmers not just brown coats so ths is very lucky) in minecarts in my trading hall are ok, all the browncoats on farmland despawn every two or so days whether I go into the nether or not, so my 5 farms and villager breeder are a constant headache I am playing in a realm on windows 10 1.2.10 please fix this

I also experienced the issue. I tried building a villager spawner and villagers kept dissappearing from the field I built for them to autofarm. Tried nametags, but they still disappeared. I stopped trying to make the spawner work and built a village at another location with ~100 doors. Villagers still dissappeared - specifically the villagers assigned to farm crops. I noticed, that this always happened to villagers that are near the village but not within the village borders. I suspect that the game mechanics remove villagers, who count towards the villager cap, but are not within the village boundaries.
Villager which were turned by golden apple/potion of weakness also do not despawn, when they don't have a village they belong or can go to.

I can confirm that this bug is occurring on my Kindle Fire, vanilla version. My villagers certainly despawned as they were behind fences and in a controlled area (no mobs could get to them). Lost three out of six villagers. Oddly, all were librarians that were lost.

Same thing happening on our realm. Villagers and minecarts with hoppers randomly disappear. Very frustrating. If you can't build anything to last, what's the point in building it?
Does the team working on this edition believe in testing?

I've been commenting in MCPE-29490. Just found this one. Same issues. I'm pretty positive it is happening durring logouts. It happens often enough that i had started logging out while watching my farms. When i log back in the browncoat is gone.
I believe i have a temporary solution for you all though.
I've noticed i never lose villagers locked in a 1x1 cell. So i made a 1x1 cell just outside the farm wall and put the farmer in it before every logout. plant the same crop in the cell. An iron door separating the farm and the cell with a switch. Open the door and when the farmer goes for the crop close the door and lock him in for your logout. Let them out on login. Its a pain and alot of work every logout but its less work than setting a new farmer every couple days.
I've only been doing this a couple days but initial results are positive, haven't lost a farmer in a locked in a cell yet.

Ian,
Unfortunately, the technique that you mentioned is impractical for Villager Breeders which require AFK time to grow and breed the villagers.

true, my temporary solution is for farmers only since they are the only ones to go for crops.
it is still working by the way. i have not lost a farmer locked in a 1x1 cell since i started doing this, around a week or so. i would have lost one or two by now usually.
ideas you can try for a breeding pen could be adapted from this though.
-you could make a series of one by one pens separated by iron doors or gates. with all the gates open it would allow mating mingling and food sharing. close the gates before logging out and lock them in cells wherever they stand. let them out on login.
you would probably have to feed them manually instead of letting them farm their own food because of space restrictions. i find giving them a stack of carrots usually pops out 2 to 4 babies with a breed stock of 5-6 adults (my own current system).
personally, i guess since i have nothing invested in new villagers out of a breeding pen i haven't put much thought into how to make sure everyone lives through to tomorrow, just so long as some villagers are still there to breed which hasn't been a problem for me. i also have a zombie spawner close by underground i have set up to separate zombie-villagers and i get most of my specific needs farmers from there anyway - like the wheat farmer that is critical to have only seeds in his inventory which takes a lot of work to get one and set him up - which is why i put thought into how to save him and not breeders.

I am really confused now Mega_Spud. You close this report of entities disappearing (or despawning) as a duplicate of another case, and on that case (MCPE 21416) you close it as unfixable while misquoting the "crash" effect. On both of these issues being reported, no where is a crash being reported. Both of these are duplicate reporting of the issue, but both of them report that animals are despawning after interaction with the player, after the player either leaves the game or goes to another world. This is a credible issue and will lead to many quitting the game if they cant rely on keeping animals they work hard to breed and use.

I also am confused at this move by Mojang. Why are you trying to brush this one under the rug and not fix one of the more important game mechanics? Villagers and entities should stay in the world if you interact with them correct? Why should chunk borders be an exception to the rule. Game crashing is not involved in anything that I was reported here. Regardless this is your game to fix. "Won't fix" is unacceptable.

MCPE-21416 has been reopened and we can track the issue there.
Just a quick comment about the resolution - the feedback to and from the developers was that a lot of the missing entities were as a result of crashes occurring, which was more of a "can't fix without risking a complete corruption of the world save".
However, as the recent comments are still suggesting that mobs are despawning even when the world/realm doesn't crash, we will keep looking into it further.
If you can add any more evidence of mobs despawning without the game crashing (repro steps, test worlds or videos) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your patience, and sorry for the inconvenience this bug causes!

Is it possible to reopen this? I am still having this issue in PE survival. It happens in both naturally spawned villages as well as villages I create from scratch by curing zombie villagers. Thank you for your help.

@MinecraftMommy This issue is being tracked as part of a larger issue at MCPE-21416. Players report than any kind of entity, not just villagers, can randomly despawn/disappear. If you have any insight into how to consistently reproduce this bug we would much appreciate that information on the parent ticket.
