Here is a copy of my current world folder if this helps:

It was happening to me, I would exit the game far from spawn, and when re-entering my world, I would die from falling at spawn, when I selected "respawn" I would spawn where I was suppose to load into the world initially. It seems while the world is loading, my character is placed in the air above world spawn and dies from falling before game would load actual current position.
For a while I was placing all items in a chest after loosing everything to this bug, but then I placed a 5x5 slime block pad at the place I was dying and it has not happened again yet. Also, it never happened if I saved AT spawn above ground right next to the place it was happening.
Currently a bug is preventing me from exporting my world, so I can't use that workaround, but here is a zip of my actual world folder.

Same thing, Win 10 1.8 and 1.9 No sound when drinking potions.
Also, I was using Code Crafted texture pack as a non mandatory world pack, not global, but stopped using it. The problem still persist, is this only happening to me?
I've had the same issue once as well. Game loaded into death screen with items scattered at spawn, exited game safe in base before that. Windows 10 version.
I'm having a similar issue, it has been plaguing me since I started Realms in .14.x. I sometimes disconnect going through a portal (many players do, we call it Portal DC), but when I relogg into realms, after the building terrain screen, I get just the MC title screen background and the sound of me going though a portal, at which point I enter the game falling into lava, and die from falling damage before I burn. This has happened to me 5 times now, and I have lost many fully enchanted diamond suits and lots of gear and inventory to this. If I close the game before the portal sound completes, go on Discord and ask somebody to un light the portal I was going through, I will load into the realm safely. Should I make a new ticked, as it happened to me again last night on 0.15.7. I'm on Win 10 Beta and a Next book tablet.
Not experiencing this issue in 0.15.0 as well
Have the same issue 0.15.0, Windows 10 Beta, Windows 10 Home, NextBook tablet.
As soon as I start to drown game crashes, have not tried to drown after crashing as OP did.
Sometimes when re-starting game, some world blocks will not be updated to moment I drowned, lost 10 repeaters this way.
My current world (from above) has not experienced the terrain building freeze since the .3 update as of yet, just to let you guys know.
Now my MC Win10 BETA is crashing after an extended "Building Terrain" on my current world. I made an export of the world right after the first crash, here is a dropbox of it, I would like to know if anyone can load this without issues: Dropbox
-Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if we can load someone else's world export, or if that is even helpful, so here is the world folder itself.
Update: I re-imported the world from the export file and it loaded fine. The original (which is technically from the same moment in game time) still will not load.
First pic is after about 50 seconds or so.
Second pic is what I saw when world finally draws.
Third pic is the particle effects showing up, stays this way for about 15-20 seconds.
Last pic is the texture anomaly that started occurring with this issue.
I added these pics to the comments because I did not know if they were all pertinent to the bug report, I will attach them, remove them, or add them to another ticket at your request.
I just wanted to add that this seems to be a little different then the original bug reported here. I will make another ticket if you need, but with this issue the progress bar does not move when terrain building gets stuck. In addition, I've only seen this bug reported on Windows 10 Beta.
@[MCPE Mod] Kaleb Wasmuth You mean about the disappearing textures? I will make a ticket for that if you want, and I'll try to capture it, but I think it has a lot to do with the above situation. It did not start until the "terrain building" and chunk loading issues started.
I'm having a similar issue right now with .14.2
World will freeze or take extended periods of time (1 or 2 minutes) on the "Building Terrain). Playing on Win 10 Beta, and it seems to have started after the most recent widows update.
When world finally does draw, I will see nothing but particle effects and rain (if raining). Chunks will draw after some time, sometimes fast sometimes very slowly.
I have more detailed post about it on r/MCPE: https://www.reddit.com/r/MCPE/comments/4jei48/mc_win_10_beta_is_anyone_else_experiencing/
I also added to someone's post on the Minecraft Curse forums about the same thing, but with screen shots: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/minecraft-windows-10-edition/2667318-help-game-freezes-on-generating-world-building
Also, I'm experiencing missing textures on the sides of blocks as I walk around after this started happening.
I can make more screen shots on other worlds to the same effects if you need.
I did search for this, I only saw it posted under the Java version, I searched for a while, my bad.
One more thing, the gate in the first picture I posted (with the sand in the background) is facing North/South and the gate in the second picture (not the Dark Oak) is facing East/ West. As far as I remember, and i'm pretty sure, they were fine when I placed them.
No, don't know how to specifically replicate it, they were aligned fine when I placed them, then after some time I came back and they were out of line as pictured. If I remember right, it happened after the chunk was unloaded and then reloaded, and now they are stuck that way. I will load it up tonight or tomorrow and see if the specific ones I posted are still like this. Thanks for the reply.
Just curious, are you trying to doing this on the mobile PE or the Win 10 Beta? I mean, I don't know if there is REALLY a difference, just curious.
I will do some testing for you. To be specific, this was done in survival. I have yet to load up creative.
If anyone else has this problem, all you have to do is go to your Minecraft world folder (which you can find here according to your platform" https://help.mojang.com/customer/portal/articles/1480874-where-are-minecraft-files-stored- ) go into the folder with the random character string that contains your world so that you see the contents of the world folder, select all, and then create a zip folder archive. Name it whatever you like (like the world name) but change the .zip file extension to .mcworld and now you have a working world export.
Yep, it turns out the exported world files are just zip files with the .mcworld file extension.
