Died while not playing

I logged out of my Minecraft Survival World 2 days ago, (January 10, 2019) alive with full health inside my house. No monsters around or anything. I log back in today (January 12, 2019) and I am immediately dead with my items no where to be found including a full set of enchanted diamond armor. This is very frustrating because it takes time to earn high tier items and this world is for my YouTube survival Let's Play series. So now I'm set back to square 1 with no food, armor or weapons. To clarify only items on my character are missing everything in chests are still around.

Exactly this has just happened to me today

I’m having the same issue. Playing on Nintendo Switch, v1.8.1. My last save was also at full health & right next to my bed in the morning. When I just loaded the game, I immediately got a death screen at a location I have no idea how to find. I lost all my gear, including some diamond armor.

Please fix this. It’s extremely frustrating to lose 30 levels of xp & all the gear I have in my inventory (all the stuff in my chests is still there, fortunately). I don’t want to play the game if it’s broken like this. Pretty disappointing.

Also, what’s the point in having me create a username for this site if you’re going to show my full name in the comments? Seems a little ridiculous.

The Switch version has the same issue. Tip, your items will be at the world spawn so you might want to immediately destroy your bed and die to return to the world spawn and collect them.

Realised this after both having my items appear at my world spawn which was close to my base and on a fiends world when it occurred to them, I joined at the spawn and found everything, hundreds of blocks from where they were.

I'm also playing on Nintendo Switch, and this has happened on every single load, in every single world, since about January 5th. It's making the game unplayable, because I can't reliably close the software and come back at a later time.

As noted by previous commenters, the last time I saved, I was in the bedroom of my house during the daytime with no monsters in the vicinity (at surface level, anyway, and all doors into the house were closed). Ceiling of the room was four blocks high. I was not standing on a transparent block nor had any transparent blocks above me, nor was there anything in the vicinity that could have caused a sudden and unexpected death. Upon loading the game, I was presented with a "you died" message and appeared to be at the top of a tree. Based on what J Unknown said, I think this was the world spawn point (I'd only created the world yesterday). I went back to the main menu without respawning, and loaded a copy of the game I'd made after saving (after googing this before, someone suggested this was a workaround). I was also dead on arrival there, in apparently the same location.

Fortunately in this case I'd only just finished building my home base and hadn't really collected much of anything yet, but I have no interest in playing the game again until I know this is resolved. As others have said, it's very disappointing to get to minecraft's equivalent of "maximum level" and be forced to start from scratch through no fault of your own.

I've had this happen multiple times on Xbox bedrock edition. You spawn in high in the sky and plummet to your death, spraying items all over spawn. Just happened again and lost 80 levels. I covered spawn in slime blocks so maybe the next time it can be fun instead of stopping to play Cities Skylines. After 9 years you'd think Mojang could bring you into your world without killing you.

This has happened to me once on Win 10 Edition. My items were spread out around my house, though.

I have the same issue. Makes the game unplayable. I wish there was some sort of response to this.

Same thing happened on my Realm Server on Nintendo Switch

Had a similar issue. Was alive and well in mine about 10 blocks above bedrock. No MOBs or other threats in my tunnels. Had 75xp. Closed game and when reopened found I had fallen from aa great height and died on top of my fortress. Raced back to the mine to find all my items but they were not there. Headed back to my base on the surface and found all my items outside along with 7 xp. There was no real reason for having died, I was mining  for diamonds and suddenly fell out of the sky????

I do not see how the issue was resolved. There is no explanation for why my character died by falling from a great height while in a mine 10 blocks above bedrock. All my gear was splattered on the surface outside my fortress
