Stuck in ender gateway now world wont load

I'm playing in single player, survival. I threw an ender pearl to go through an ender gateway and my game is completely messed up now. After I threw the pearl, the world around me never loaded. My character was floating in blackness. When I would throw an ender pearl or shot an arrow, the player would make the animation of throwing or shooting, but no projectile was shot out. I could toggle between first and third person views but couldn't move. Nothing happened for several minutes so I closed the game thinking the chunk was having trouble loading and I'd just load in when I restarted. But now the game wont load at all. It doesn't move past the "word generating screen." It cycles through all the tips and suggestions, the loading bar gets to full, but the game never loads.
