The skin bug MCPE-37926 was introduced in 1.7 and I downloaded the game in that version. In 1.8 the crash on trying to use a custom skin for the first time was fixed, which allowed me to attempt to add a skin without a crash. The skin became corrupted and completely invisible, and now in 1.9 even though the bug is fixed my skin refuses to change no matter what.

Are you able to upload a new (different) custom skin to the game? Could you share a copy of the custom skin here to see whether it's valid or not?

Yes, this is the issue that I got redirected to from the skin changing bug
edit: the main issue is, it was made on one device and I managed to get it onto that devices version (it looks great) but I cannot get it to another one via photosharing.
Here are the skin and the issue

(Again, I tried to thumbnail it, if someone can fix it that’d be great)
The image you've uploaded isn't a valid PNG image file, it's a JPG without any transparency.
Here's the skin converted to PNG and with a transparent background:

I'd suggest looking for skins that are compatible, or perhaps asking in the Minecraft Discord for some tips in making them.
@unknown Can you confirm whether the skin you are trying to apply is a valid PNG image or not?

Interesting. I have no idea what would cause that, it worked fine on my other device. May be either an issue with a highly rated app I use, or possibly an issue with cross device airdrop on Apple thank you.

Yep, the change in file type did the Trick maybe allowing pngs on older versions of iOS is a thing or maybe it’s a reverse bug, where it accidentally accepted a png

Apparently the skin I was using was in fact a jpeg. I believe this was caused by downloading from google photos rather than a skin app. I believe this is still an issue of the game not warning me about this, though.

Does anyone know of a good iPhone compatible skin editor app that is free? The one I used on my iPad seems to have disappeared.
