Painting Glitch Upon Destruction

I was building with stairs and stripped wood in my superflat world on creative mode, and upon placing a painting, but found that I couldn't destroy it. This happened a further four times, until I found that if you tap in the exact right spot, the painting pops into an item again. This was in Minecraft Pocket Edition.
