Happened to me too. After I restarted the phone, all the changes I made to the map were gone, but stuff in my inventory was still there. So I decided to reboot my phone again, and after that, all my stuff was back. Creepy.
I just had this happen me. I was creating books and was going to my lower room to setup some book cases. I lost the room it's chests, and the stone staircases leading downward. I had some modifications to the tunnels that were made after the lost changes that remained while older ones reverted to how they were at the start. Was using a windows XP SP3 Java version 1.6.0_15
I had been playing survival mode off line and the problem occurred when I logged back in with working internet so was able to connect normally on single player.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I can confirm the that the issue the OP's post described is still happening in version 0.10.4 on iOS (iPhone 5s) - survival mode, single player, non-realms
This actually happened to me on Android the other day. Right after restarting the phone, I ran MCPE and it crashed. I ran it again, and it worked. I loaded my survival world and everything I had built was gone. I exited MCPE and ran it again; it crashed again. I ran it again and it worked, but my stuff was still gone. I didn't check logcat or anything as I didn't think much of it at the time; I figured it just got corrupted or something... but I can confirm that something similar to this can happen on Android.
