Things stop when outside of Simulation Distance

So I put a stack of iron in a furnace, walked away and swam around the ocean, and when I came back only 5 have smelted, I was gone for a while. I decided to test it, with timing how long it takes to cook 10 fish (1 minute 40 seconds) and then put 10 more fish in, walk away and come back after that amount of time, when I came back only 5 of them have smelted. This also happens with crops growing and animals ageing. To sum it up, when you go too far from things, they stop moving in time or stop preforming actions.

Not a bug. Things outside your simulation distance won't tick. This is set up this way to increase performance, since loading everything in the world at once would case significant hiccups and make the game unplayable

Thank you for your report!
However, this issue is Working as Intended.

The maximum simulation distance is platform / device specific. This setting can be changed in the world options. The number roughly represents the distance in chunks around the player that will receive updates. As mentioned, this is intentional to not overload the server-side with updates.

Please keep in mind that not all differences between versions/platforms of Minecraft are bugs. If you need help or would like to make a suggestion please follow a link below.
