Okay, so, i mined coal and then i went to collect it and i wouldnt let me...when i left and came back it was gone, but it wasnt in my inventory. I also made a pickaxe in my crafting table and then it was just floating by the table but i couldnt collect it.....why?? Please help?!!!

(and if there are items floating on the ground, they will despawn (get deleted) after a few minutes.)
