I wanted to make a cake, so I crafted an iron bucket and set off to find a cow. When I tapped on the cow with my bucket, it just dealt damage to the cow.

This isn't an issue, but more of a personal mistake. You have to tap and hold on the cow, as if you were to destroy a block on it.
