Hello, so i was building a house and i needed smooth stone and when i was smelting stone i didn't get the smooth stone is it a bug? please fix it!

I'm having this problem too
I assume this is a bug as I can only make smooth stone when smelting in creative but once I switch to survival it doesn't smelt.
