Villager breeding dont work on older worlds

Villagers dont breed on my old worlds, and they dont take food items. I concluded that its an old world. So i created a new world and tested the new villager mechanincs, and they do work. So I went here to seek  help. Because i only created this world about a year ago, its not some really old world. And i want to play in this world for as long as i can. So please help me by trying to fix this mojang.
