When creeper explodes you (must be without armor) you see that he will take 0.5 damage, but not 9.5 like always????

I did that, and the creper killed my 9.5 hearts in 1 row, please make sure that the creeper are less than a block near from you, i will explain in words.
1.- If you are near from 1 block or less, the creeper could kill you or kill your 9.5 hearts
2.- If a creeper is near 2-3 blocks from you, the damage will be 3-5 hearts.
3.-If a creeper is near 3-4 blocks from you, the damage will be 2-4 hearts.
4.-If a creeper is near 5 blocks from you, the damage will be .5-1.5 hearts.
In fact, the more you are near from a creeper, the more damage you will have.
