I certainly can reproduce and was about to report it myself. I recently bought two controllers as specified: 8bitdo's SN30 pro+. Both work as intended in other Android games, so controller malfunction is likely ruled out. In Minecraft, though, both L2 and R2, also referred to as LT and RT, don't work for some reason. Minecraft can't see any input from both buttons. I'm following this bug now.

I Got RT working after re-pairing the pad with Android in X-input mode (as opposed to what the instruction leaflet tells). You need to remove the existing 8bitdo pairing in Android, then start SN30 pro+ by holding X and start, then press pair button for 3 sec. After that you can create a new pairing in Android and RT should work in Minecraft. Hopefully this helps.

Hotto is right — I can confirm the issue only affects D-input mode, and not X-input.
