After the recent update with the foxes, I’ve had two Nether portals drop me in random locations. One dropped me with about a 2 minute walk of the surface portal, the second seems to have dumped me in a completely random spot or at least I cannot find a nearby surface portal.
This did not happen before the update
i have a character I modded in the new character editor
I was not trying to eat food at the time
