Steps to Reproduce:
Obtain a golden apple and an enchanted golden apple
Switch to Survival mode
Eat the enchanted golden apple, as usual you'll get 8 extra absorption hearts
Take some sort of damage which removes all the extra hearts
Now eat the golden apple
Observed Results:
You get the 8 absorption hearts again which are given by enchanted golden apples.
Expected Results:
You should only get 2 absorption hearts.

Relates to MC-88694. This also used to work on java, but it cannot be reproduced anymore when using a regular golden apple.
