Game Crashes before home screen

When updating my Minecraft Pocket edition on my iPod touch to version 1.13.0, I ran into an unforeseen difficulty. When I open the app, all goes well and as usual shows the mojang logo, then the screen goes white and after a few minutes, the game crashes and I find myself back on my iPod home screen. In the 6 years of playing this wonderful game, I have never seen it act in this way, so I dearly hope that this issue can be resolved quickly so that I, and all who are troubled with this consequence, can get back to playing the game we all know and love.
