In VR trigger switches Item instead of using that item

I'm using the Rift with Touch controllers and when trying to use (attack) with the item in the main hand the item will switch with one from another slot. For instance my sword is in slot 1 of the toolbar and I'm mining by pulling the index finger trigger. I pull the trigger and it swaps to another slot and now I'm holding something else. I select the sword again and I pull the index trigger and it goes back to something else. I'll try other items and it keeps switching back to the something else.  I've seen this bug on here but it seems like they just marked it for older versions. It very much still a problem and its really bad when you are in a fight and super annoying please help!
